Protein helps you build and preserve muscle tissue. You can gain weight without building muscle, but protein is the key in order to help make sure that you are building lean muscle tissue and minimizing the amount of body fat that you gain in the process!
Protein helps your body prioritize burning fat by keeping your body holding onto as much muscle as possible. It is going to help you tell your body to use carbs and fats as fuel.
Being in a calorie deficit allows you to lose weight, and adequate protein intake will help improve your ability to burn body fat!
Protein helps to improve body composition. Maintaining muscle in this phase is key in order to give your body the look that you want.
Sometimes weight may not change much at all, but there are cases where you can build muscle and burn body fat at the same time!
Protein can play a role in nearly everything that your body does. Here is a list of things that protein can help improve, but this isn’t even all of it:

I know that this is a lot and it’s nearly impossible to learn EVERYTHING at one time, but this will at least give you a more in-depth look at how protein benefits you from a results standpoint and some of the other things it can improve!
One last tip with protein; you want to prioritize complete sources of protein, meaning they have all 9 essential amino acids, but also the additional 11 to fill out the total 20 amino acids! Sources of animal protein is a complete protein with all of the amino acids.
