On the road to recovery

Pancakes for dinner?

But wait! Pancakes for dinner? This was from last week. Once a month or so I refresh the sourdough starter, and this is the easiest way.  Randy loves them. I have two of them plain and I log the macros. Last time Mina wanted a picture. Afterwards I made protein ice cream and it felt good on my throat that was sore from the breathing tube,

Surgery done!

Surgery yesterday went well. I am doing great! They did a 3-day nerve block so that so far, I don't need any pain medication except mild over the counter. My arm is like totally dead from the nerve block, so weird! But all is great.  👍 I have to type with one finger and that is hard!

Many things are hard with only one arm! Randy is helping me with things I can't do, but I can do a lot.  I made dinner for Randy last night; a half slice of hardy French bread topped with seasoned Hamberger grilled in the air fryer, steamed frozen veggies with butter and spices, and the other half of bread with butter. Randy had to slice the bread when I started cooking and then butter the bread and veggies when I was finished. I even washed the dishes. it just takes some technique and patience.

The nurses were amazed at how well I recovered and walked out of there so quickly.

Exercise!

Maybe later today Randy will go for a walk with me. There are 50-mile chilly winds here though! We will have to bundle up.

The day before surgery I did a nice brisk 6-mile walk. I was going to use the exercise bike, but it was too beautiful to stay indoors. It was so refreshing even though the cold winds were starting up.

Monday I did weight training at home while the kitties watched and hung out with me:

Nibblet on Randy's desk. He is growing fast, has such a fun personality, and loves living here.

Doing a little HIIT running,

Starting on some distance running.

What about calories?

Even when we do not exercise calories matter! never lose sight that calories control body fat. It is not fun to have to focus on a deficit. it is better when we know how to maintain. We can only do that with meal plans; even going out to eat and vacation, holiday, and special event meal plans.

The more I run or do cardio, the harder it is. Planning ahead, having good options, avoiding temptations and reducing stress are required.

I am doing well. I am maintaining some days, going over less, and a few deficit days. This year I will be running more, so need to plan on that; constantly tracking calories and checking reality with the body weigh scale.

I am happy with what I see in the mirror, mostly the same as my last picture and video. We can't hide in a video even more than we can't hide in pictures!
