Do you spend your days keeping your goals to yourself? Doing it on your own? Knowing what you need to do, but somehow not doing it?
Yeah, me too.
I often fall into a rut of not fully planning out my meals. I eat what "I feel like eating." Often, my meals are too big and I'm left trying to save the day by fasting and that doesn't work very often.
Calorie needs vs moody wants.
Often after a meal, I just want something else. I'm not necessarily hungry anymore. It's a moody want. Even if it's something healthy like protein, fiber, healthy fats or carbs, it's simply extra. It's not needed. I can have it later or tomorrow.
Just wait.
Today I had a conversation with Mina that helped me. We may not talk in person as I am in California, USA and she is in South Korea, but it's still a support conversation.
If I hadn't posted the blog yesterday, which I often don't feel like doing, we wouldn't have had the conversation. If Mina wasn't courageous enough to comment, I wouldn't have stated what I thought the key to smaller meals was. Voicing it reminded me that it was exactly what I needed to do.
I wanted other things with the meal this morning, bread, more hummus, cheese, and avocado. Instead, I PLANNED a smaller meal, that also had some bulk and was filling.
Part of the key was PLANNING the meal. Often my first meal of the day is 500-600 calories. That's just too much when my TDEE is 1400 calories.
I cooked the turkey bacon in the air fryer. While it was cooking, I heated the cask iron skillet at medium and placed in the tomato slices. I whisked together the 2 eggs with a little salt and a dash of milk. After I flipped over the tomato slices, I poured over the eggs and turned the heat down to low. When the eggs were nearly fully cooked, I flipped them over and cooked for another couple of minutes. I topped them with two tablespoons of hummus.
Then, the key was sticking to the plan like I said in my reply to Mina.
After the meal, I made some tea and I'm writing this post and then getting to my IT professional study online, to progress in my re-certification for CompTia A+.
I've got cute kitties draped around the room. Here is Nibblet sitting on the couch next to my desk.
They make me smile.
Tips for voicing your intentions:
Choose your words carefully.
Rather than say something general like “I want to be successful,” get down into the details. For example, if you want to be healthier, you might state “I am gaining more energy and losing extra weight by eating a well-planned meal plan” or “I glow with strength and happiness by running five times a week and getting enough sleep.” Ensure that your word choice reflects your true intentions to drive the desired impact.
Be courageous.
It can be intimidating at first to verbalize your intentions in front of others. But speaking what you want helps make it come true. When you do, it also creates a positive ripple effect that extends beyond yourself. When you are fearless in your commitment, first with your thoughts and then with your words and actions, it gives other people permission to step into their brilliance and take risks. If they see you succeeding and failing and just continuing to show up fully, that keeps their stories moving along as well.
This also helps YOU by reminding you to follow through with your own intention. Maybe you forgot what you needed to do and needed to remind yourself.
Practice.
Repetition, in thought and spoken word, makes all the difference. Whether it is saying you are going to make a seven-figure income, buy your dream home or meet the partner of your dreams, repeat it to yourself each day. When you repetitively say what you believe to be true, you stop hiding behind it or being embarrassed by it or apologizing for your desires.
Have you ever spoken your intentions out loud? How did that practice make a difference? This can include what you say in writing as it did for me in my conversation with Mina today. This blog is private. It's not searchable of google. It's just a place for us to support each other like this.
My Goals
In addition to planning out my meals today, and mustering up the mindset to follow them, I am gaining energy from my running 5 days a week. It's helping build my momentum with complying with daily calories and building up to run a marathon later this year. My nutrition plan WILL HELP ME LOSE BODY FAT. The running helps my mindset and keeps me on a positive track. I'm not doing too much, I have some easier running days, a day of cross training, and a day of rest.
Surround yourself with people who you can voice your goals and intentions with.
Don't try to go it alone.
Not everyone will get it or be supportive. Find some who will, even if it's online.
We all need a little help from our friends. Thank you, Mina, for always being there and helping me, even from the other side of the world!
Back to my studies now and staying busy and hydrated and not eating extra that I don't need!
